Hong Kong eAWB360 Workshop

On 26 April 2016, IATA hosted the Hong Kong eAWB360 workshop dedicated to the implementation of electronic Air Waybills (e-AWB) in Hong Kong.  Around 170 participants from airlines, freight forwarders, local Customs and terminals, ground handling agents, as well as GLSHK attended the event held in Cathay Pacific City.

IATA reported the latest e-AWB penetration rate of 37.5 percent against the 2016 target of 56 percent.  Hong Kong is doing well with the Hong Kong International Airport and Cathay Pacific Group continuously ranking top in the respective categories.

Recently, fourteen eAWB360 airlines have jointly announced to switching over to e-AWB as the preferred means for shipping cargo to all destinations, by using the e-AWB Single Process at the Hong Kong International Airport effective from 1 June 2016.

Participating carriers and air cargo terminals in Hong Kong shared in the workshop their readiness and support for the e-AWB Single Process.  GLSHK also shared a few successful stories on how EzyCargoTM, the well-established agency platform have supported airlines and freight forwarders in the fast implementation of e-AWB in Hong Kong.

eAWB360 is an industry "call-to-action" initiative aiming at promoting e-AWB.  The Community driven approach aims for harmonized implementation and synchronized communication, which includes the commitment of the eAWB360 airlines to implement Single Process as well as a common e-AWB SOP for GHAs at eAWB360 airports.

The eAWB360 campaign was kicked off in Europe in 2015 and has seen increases in the e-AWB volume in a few participating airports.  The campaign was moved to Hong Kong, Middle East and the US in 2016 covering a total of 12 airports.

The airlines supporting the eAWB360 Hong Kong campaign includes: Air Canada Cargo, Air France/KLM Cargo, American Airlines Cargo, Cathay Pacific Cargo, China Airlines Cargo, Delta Cargo, Etihad Cargo, Finnair, IAGCargo, Korean Air Cargo, Lufthansa Cargo, Qatar Cargo, Saudia, Swiss WorldCargo, and United Cargo.
