Hong Kong moves closer to the new air cargo digitalization standard with the successful pilot of the IATA’s ONE Record standard. ONE record aims at enabling data transparency through the sharing of shipment data by all stakeholders along the logistics chain with a single Virtual Shipment Record.
The pilot was conducted last month by Cathay Pacific Cargo, Hong Kong International Airport, Cathay Pacific Cargo Terminal, and three of our EzyCargoTM agents – DHL Global Forwarding, Sinotrans and Soonest Express. Global Logistics System (GLS) provides the web-based ONE Record API (Application Programming Interface) platform to share shipment data between the parties, and in integrating with the ONE Record platform of the Hong Kong International Airport. Shipment data was successfully and correctly shared to all participants.
“ONE Record consists of three major pillars. An API that enables stakeholders to access the data; the Security standard to control access to data; and the structure of the data for commonality.” said Mr. Simon Ng, CEO of GLS. “We are proud to participate and provide the support to the successful Hong Kong pilot. We are looking at enabling data exchange between forwarders and airlines based on the ONE Record standard over our web API by the third quarter of this year. This is a first step towards our ultimate vision in migrating all our airline and forwarder customers to the ONE Record platform.”
“Cathay Pacific Cargo was the first airline to implement 100 per cent e-AWB (electronic Air Waybill) operations – the foundation of the ONE Record programme which contains more data.” said Ms. Clera Lam, Cathay Pacific Head of Cargo Digital. “We have been the leader in its implementation around the world for the past 10 years.”
“The ONE Record data exchange will facilitate our daily operations enabling a more near-real-time approach to retrieve data,” noted Ms. Winnie Ip who manages the Global Gateway for DHL Global Forwarding. “In future, we will be able to analysis the data to explore the immense potential for other business opportunities.”
GLS also supports Cathay Pacific Cargo, our biggest airline customer, in the previously ONE Record pilots in Amsterdam and at London Heathrow.
