(Hong Kong – Monday, 30 November 2020) Foreseeing the coming trend of cargo digitalization, Global Logistics System (HK) Co. Ltd (“GLS”) took the lead to host an online webinar on 26 November to introduce the IATA ONE Record concept to our freight forward partners in Hong Kong. Over 30 business leaders of the airfreight forwarding industry attended the webinar.
“Given the prevailing pandemic, this is our very first online gathering with our forwarder friends,” said Mr. Simon Ng, Chief Executive Office of GLS. “As your digital enabler, GLS is committed to offer the best e-freight solutions to our forwarder and airline customers. We have seen it the right time now to start preparing our forwarder customers to the ONE Record standard.” Mr. Ng further highlighted that “GLS is basically ONE Record ready, and is looking to help our forwarders in piloting their ONE Record initiatives.”
As introduced in the webinar, ONE Record is a data sharing standard through a single virtual shipment record. Data are shared via standardized and secured web API, with a trusted network to protect data privacy and confidentiality.
Moving from document-centric to the data-centric model, data owner controls the sharing of data, enabling more dynamic and end-to-end data visibility and transparency. It provides the foundation for cargo digitalization, opening possibilities for collaborative and automated transport chains as well as interactive cargo.
“The IATA ONE Record Programme unlocks great possibilities of an end-to-end digital air cargo journey which Cathay Pacific Cargo is shaping its digital roadmap around,” echoed by guest speaker Ms. Clera Lam, Head of Cargo Digital of Cathay Pacific Airways.
An active participating member of IATA ONE Record Task Force (ORTF), GLS has partnered with Cathay Pacific in various ONE Record pilot projects with other local partners in Netherland and the UK, covering standard data sharing as well as the tracking of advanced shipment statuses. GLS will continue to conduct more pilots in preparation for the gradual rollout of our gateway solution.
“GLS is ready to take a great leap forward in Airfreight digitalization journey,” said Mr. Ng in his closing message. “Forwarders who are interested to explore new business opportunities for process improvements, smooth data integration and better customer services are welcomed to join GLS for any pilot programs to embark on this new digital era.”
